BAY LIGHTHOUSE
The lighthouse was used to guide ships on the way from Port Phillip Heads to the Hovell Pile turning mark at Mc Crae. When new technology meant it was no longer required, it was moved to its present location and refurbished at a cost of $1.2 million dollars. The light is still operational and marks the southern end of the Rye Channel.

In the early 1900's the Ferrier's with four children lived on the lighthouse, alternating with another family at the Mc Crae lighthouse every six weeks. One of the children, Lewis Ferrier the bare footed fisherman, still runs his boat Rosebud out of Queenscliff and was a central figure in the recent Wooden Boat Festival.
